Each year, St Marys North celebrates NAIDOC Week. We participate in a range of interesting activities that have an Aboriginal Culture theme. Some activities included: boomerang throwing, artefacts, indigenous games, dot painting, dancing, bush tucker and we got to eat some crocodile and kangaroo meat. Here are some pictures of us enjoying this very fun day!

To finish off our unit on Built and Natural Sites in Australia, and with NAIDOC Week coming up, 2/3A looked at images of Uluru on the internet and created their own representation of this cultural site.
Over the past few weeks, 2./3A have been very lucky to have Miss Valletta work in our classroom. She taught the students all about Fractions and 3D Objects, as well as, continued teaching about Built and Natural Sites. 2/3A enjoyed doing art lessons with Miss Valletta. They created a collage of the Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef. 2/3A and Mrs McAlister will miss her happy face in our classroom. We all wish Miss Valletta good luck in her teaching career, and we all know that she will love teaching in her own classroom one day! Her students will be lucky to have such a great teacher! Here are some photos of 2/3A with Miss Valletta! Here is some of the work that 2/3A have done with Miss Valletta over the past few weeks!
The Jolly Bops show was really good. It was funny and we learnt a lot about Science as well!
Jordyn and Xyi did a great job as Science Assistants, during the show! 2/3A please comment and tell us what your favourite part of the show was....??? What a wonderful first term we have had together!
We have been so busy learning - the weeks have just flown by! Wishing all the children and families of 2/3A a very happy and safe holiday and an awesome Easter! I hope you all enjoy the extra time you get to spend with family and loved ones! See you all next term.... ready to learn! Mrs McAlister x Everyone in 2/3A made fantastic hats for our school's annual Easter Hat Parade!
Don't they look wonderful?? HAPPY EASTER everyone! Today our school held our ANZAC Day Service. We all contributed flowers to make a beautiful class wreath to lay at the flag poles. Our class talked about the importance of ANZAC Day and made a short video about the significance of ANZAC. We will remember them. We decided to have a mini disco in our classroom, to not only shake off some excess energy, but to practice our moves for the DISCO! This video is of 2/3A moving and grooving to "What does the Fox say?", using Just Dance on YouTube! They had a great time! Great moves everyone!!!! 072 from Mrs McAlister on Vimeo. This term with Mrs Jackson, 2/3A have been learning the song "Hey Baby". In these Music lessons, 2/3A have learnt about beat, dynamics and pitch as well as how to play a range of percussion instruments. 2/3A performed their song for 2B and 2V, with the help of Mrs McAlister's son, Lucas, who was visiting our class that day! We hope that you enjoy our performance! IMG 0888[1] from Amy on Vimeo. This week we have been learning about MONEY! We have learnt about the important Australians that are represented on our Australian notes, we have counted money and played with money (unfortunately though, not the real kind!). We have pretended to go shopping providing the correct coins to pay for items! Parents;
Please note that money is a tricky concept for children to learn. Could you please incorporate conversations about money, paying for items and even counting out money, when you are shopping with your children. This will help them with their growing understanding! Thanks! Guided Reading happens every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in our classroom. Each week, we read with Mrs McAlister or Mrs Elphick, and we complete different spelling activities independently at our desks. When we finish our independent work, we can choose a book to read!
Here are some photos of the different types of work we do during Guided Reading time! Here are some photos of children in 2/3A solving subtraction problems!
Ryan (our birthday boy) and Year 2 were investigating all the numbers that could be subtracted from 20. Nicholas, Avery and Year 3 were completing subtraction algorithms. Mrs Du Ross-Smith was playing subtractions number games with a small group! Maths is fun in our classroom! Look at the beautiful work that children in 2/3A are producing in their HSIE books!
Their work is VERY IMPRESSIVE (and makes 'marking' even more delightful for Mrs McAlister!) This week, 2/3A have been studying SHAPES! On the way to the Library, we looked around in the playground and found shapes everywhere! In the classroom we investigated the properties of 2D shapes. We completed a range of activities using geo-boards, pattern blocks and popsticks to represent shapes using different materials. We are all able to identify shapes, based on the number of sides.

A magician got a black hat and pulled a white cute bunny rabbit out of it. Avery A smart little monkey pushed around a tiny wooden trolley and rode a little black pony. Hayden Eight silly clowns had squeaky red noses, colourful curly hair and they ate fairy floss while riding tricycles. Elicia In Week 5, we asked Mr Tangye, our school's Aborginal Education Officer, to come to our classroom to teach us about Aborginal Art. Mr Tangye showed us some of his very own artworks and we all could see how talented he is! Mr Tangye then asked Emily to ground some 'ochre' - to make a traditional Aboriginal paint. Mr Tangye put some of this traditional paint on his face. After this, Mr Tangye drew some Aborginal drawings onto our HSIE book covers in black texta. We were then able to use the 'Dip Dot' method, using the 'dabbers' to create our dot paintings. Our book covers look FANTASTIC. Mr Tangye and Mrs McAlister were so impressed with our Aboriginal Artworks! What do you think??
2/3A have been very busy this week learning about and using the techniques of the author
Pamela Allen in their own writing. Here are some of their descriptive sentences! The blue whale swam alongside the coral reef near the coast of Australia. (2/3A) The colourful butterfly slowly landed on the pink flower in the beautiful garden. (2/3A) The lazy dog slept soundly on the blanket inside the kennel. (2/3A) The huge lizard climbed up the tree in the forest. (Hayden) The shark swam quickly through the waves in the ocean. (Jordyn) The yellow lion played inside the cave in the rainforest. (Maylanee) We went to the water park near the train station. (Avery) The hairy wombat dug a hole with its sharp claws in the ground of the forest. (Seth) The black platypus lived on the rocks at the beach. (Ryan) The huge elephant stomped its feet on the rocks on the road. (Madison) The white polar bear climbed up a snowy hill in Antarctica. (Elicia) Emily went in a boat out to sea. (Braiden) The funny girl was playing football happily at the football field on Boronia Road. (Bradley) The stripy tiger played in the leaves of the jungle with the monkey. (Meleana) The cute kitten jumped around in circles on the verandah in front of the house. (Gracie) During Week 4, 2/3A wrote a list of descriptive words about themselves. Their lists included words about their age, school, grade, appearance and their interests / likes. They then published their descriptive words, as WORD CLOUDS on a website called Tagxedo.
2/3A did a great job! Their WORD Clouds look fantastic! (Unfortunately, some students exited out of the website, before their work could be saved. However, all students who completed this task have their printed work displayed in the School Foyer this week!) In Week 3, we learnt about Whole Numbers to 100 (Year 2) and 1000 (Year 3). Students participated in a range of activities exploring these numbers. Here are some photos of Year 2 children solving hundreds chart puzzles. Their aim was to work out which number came one before, one after, ten before and ten after, in order to complete the hundreds chart! A fun way of learning about Numbers!
![]() This week students in 2/3A have collaboratively created a 'Values Tree'. They coloured in different shaped leaves and pasted them onto the tree trunk. They brainstormed what values are and attached these value words to the tree. 2/3A Values: Respect, determination, cooperation, learning, reliability, being the best, happiness, patience, teamwork, involvement, differences, friendship, trust, family, fun, encouragement, happiness, cheerfulness and fairness. Do you value the same things in your life? Just a reminder for all the families of 2/3A,
This week children were given a note, requesting permission to have their image and work published on our blog site. I encourage all parents to have a good look around our website and hope that you are all happy to allow your children to join in with this wonderful online learning experience. Their work and photos will be posted on this blog page, for you all to see! The children of 2/3A are so excited about blogging and can't wait to get started! Please send signed permission notes in to school as soon as possible, Mrs McAlister |
